Karakia, Whakatauki and Waiata.

Each morning we start with a Karakia, Whakatauki and Waiata.

Our Karakia and whakatauki-

Waiata we use at school-

It is fantastic to start our morning connecting to our school and learning new songs. It has helped the kids to start their day in a positive way.

Te Reo throughout the classroom.

To encourage students to use Te Reo on a daily basis each week we have a Te Reo phrase that students learn to say and respond to in Te Reo.
Each of these phrases are talked about in the morning and encouraged throughout the day.
These are displayed and hung in the classroom.

I have noticed that the students are excited about using and learning the phrases each week. They have been correcting themselves when they have used it wrong.

As part of this there are Te Reo labels around this class on common classroom items- this is also encouraging the students to use the Te Reo word instead.

Kaitiakitanga in the classroom.

At Mangonui School we teach students about Kaitiakitanga and leadership within our school.
This links with the ideas of being Kaitiaki to ourselves, others and papatuanuku.

Kaitiakitanga is about being a guardian and a leader and learning about the responsibilities we have to ourselves, others and papatuanuku.

After discussing as a class what we think it means to be Kaitiaki this is what we created:

This is referred every morning at the start of our day and added to as we learn more.

DFI #9- Revision

Wednesday 13th November 2019

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

Today we talked about Ubiquitous Learning with Kerry and Vanessa. This is about learning being anywhere, anytime, any place- which after being on the Manaiakalani journey this year I really do believe that this is what learning has become in my class.
When students are away they can find our learning on our class site. They can also see examples of what others have done which I have found has helped a lot of my learners start tasks more promptly and less students saying they don't know what they are doing.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional/personally?

Kerry mentioned a website that can find alternative apps https://alternativeto.net/ I will definitely use this to try and find different apps for things that I could use personally or for school things to.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

I want to have a go at using google classrooms with my students to set assignments for them and have a discussion area and see if they enjoy this.

Test day- Today we had our google exam and I passed!
The test was a lot different than what I was expecting and was a lot of reading.
