RPI Day 4 - Guided reading

It was great to get into guided reading today. 

I really liked the fluency activity that we did today. I really like the fluency scale and how it is broken down into each section, super clear and the student version will be great to use with my class. Capture videos/voice recordings of my class to do this will be great as well.

Today really made me think about all the things I am doing in my guided groups at the moment. My goal will be using some follow up tasks over the next 3 weeks that connect to the LI the group has. I will have to make sure that this is done online but also offline for students that prefer it this way.

In my guided planning for week 4 I have added specific quotes out of the book that I will be able to direct the students too if they need this support.

This slide was a great reminding of how we select groups and made me think about how I have grouped my learners and the texts that In am choosing.

Looking through the different planning examples was very helpful- It was good to see how it changes across the different levels and what follow up tasks they would use for the LI/purpose for reading. I have a large range of readers in my class so it was helpful to see the different examples.  I will be sharing these with the other teachers in my syndicate to support them as well.

-At the moment I am trying to see how I can add elements of the workbook to my own planning that I already have at my school to make this more useable and making sure that I am not doubling up on anything.

Discussing wider reading program with my mentor  - shared, independent, pair, reading to:

-Across our whole school we have had a staff meetings with a reading and what we want to our reading programme to look like as a whole. We want to make sure our kids have a love for reading and by making sure we do guided, shared, independent and buddy reading so there is lots of opportunity for reading. Our library has had a big refresh in our school which has made not only the teachers more excited to use the library but our kids are in there a lot more.

Overall at the moment I am really happy with my whole reading programme and have been using what we are learning and the resources that have been shared with us. Going back over journal surf has been great and made me use it to help find texts as we have so many at school and it can be very time consuming looking through them all.
